Looking good!!! I had considered converting my '72 crew to a 4X4 in the same manor. I wound up putting my body on a '93 F-350 4X4 chassis. I'm very interested in watching your progress... :D

Hmmm, reclocking is not an option with my tranny. HD skidplate...how about adding to bottom the frame...hmmmm.

I personally would not take a chunk out of the frame makes for a weak spot

I modded my picador frame to accept a larger Tcase

Cool idea. Unfortunately this darn TC is just too wide. I'm trying to find out if a front dodge case half would reclock the TC up a bit. If I can pull that off then I'm hoping a slight mod to the floor will get this taken care of.
The frame has a side plate that was most likely put the by the factory and I'm going to box the frame just past this point. Heck I can always weld it back up.

Hopefully this will fix the TC issue.

Image

Put my steer arms on today and it looks like the tie rod is going to hit the crossmember in it's stock form so it looks like I'll have to cycle the suspension to see what mods will have to happen.

purtee,

Image

It's just angle but clearly 2" between imaginary tie rod and CM just isn't going to cut it.

Clocking ring fixed TC issues and created others. Basically there i so much going on that removing the CM was the only answer. At least most everything will benefit from this. I can get the engine almost another 1" to the passenger side.

Been a while, better put up an update. I basically had to put her on hold for a while but I'm pecking away at it now.

I found an alternate A/C highmount bracket in my local JY. All of my part number are different that what I've found online, but it works and cost me $30.00 for everything. Hopefully I can get the T case a bit more to the passsenger side now.

Image

That's about the time I had to move it out of the barn.

Shoved her back this fall in but I'm kinda draggin my feet to see if I can find a 24v/ 6 speeds set up so I'm moving on to the rear axle. Cut out the stock d60 and am going to mock up with stock 3" leafs to figure how much lift I'm going to need to level it out. This means I need 3" hangers as well. I have a set from my 73 and I'm pretty sure the 2wd rear/front hangers are the same as 78-79. I have a spare set on the way just in case.

Image

Dang, these frames are thin.

Image

Image

D80 all rebuilt and pretty.

Image

Image

Grinder bit me....thought that was going to be a gusher at first:

Image

Picked up a spare block to use for mockup and well....ya just never know. I can't put my hiost in front of the truck in my barn so this beings way,way lighter I should be able to hang it over the side and continue with the engine- T case debacle.

Moving along:

D80 is in but need the proper leafs still. I converted to 3" leafs.

Image

New CM and perches are most of the way done. I was able to get 3.5 to the passenger side. TC just barely gets into the frame now.

Image

Started boxing the frame:
