Cooling Question...

Postby IdahoRich » Thu Dec 27, 2012 9:19 pm

So I am replacing the radiator in my '69 Crew 4x4. I wanted to go aluminum and the guy at the radiator shop is trying to sell me on a 2-row because he feels the better air flow would be more beneficial then the grater fluid volume of a 3-row.

Does anyone have some $.02 on this?

I think a three row would be fine. They are still going to have sufficient air flow plus its always good to have the extra cooling capacity, for hauling, mudding or whatever. If you find you do need more air flow, you can always add on an electric fan.

I recommend contacting the guys at PerformanceRadiator.com and asking them. I have found good luck using the Super Cooler (part number 1502). Its not aluminum, but its best radiator I have owned. I first bought a super cooler from them when I was in Tucson, AZ and I have never had a cooling problem since. They have shops all over the US, so find the one closest to you and give them a call. note: their website is down for upgrades until the first of the year.

3 or 4 row will be fine, especially in aluminum. The Performance Radiator desert cooler are good radiators. I've also used a BUNCH of Champion aluminum radiators in all sorts of stuff from a 750hp big block Nova to my 73 CC tow rig (well, before I tore it apart for the resto but the same rad will go back in). Ledfoot Racing is a big distributor and will almost make mods if you call and ask. I had them add some extra bungs in the rad for my Cummins swap that was destined for the 77 Crew.
