Re: Disc brake conversion question

Postby OrthmannJ » Mon Jun 10, 2019 4:07 pm

I finally went around them and contacted Wilwood. When I called in I was put on hold, but they answered within ten minutes. I told them what the situation was and they looked into it while I was on the phone with them. Turns out the hoses are NOT part of the kit. The Wilwood rep apologized for the improper information on CJ's sight and proceeded to tell me that the hose kit was available, but it had a 7 day lead time. He also mentioned that JEG's sells their kit, it's cheaper and they offer free shipping. I thanked him for the info and that was the end of the conversation.
I checked into it and sure enough, JEG's had the kit, it was cheaper, they offered free shipping and it was shipped out the following day. I got a confirmation email, complete with a tracking number. I was happy to have that taken care of and to know the parts are on their way.

Then today just before lunch I get a call from a 800 number and it's CJ's. I didn't answer because I had left my phone on my desk, but they did Leave a message: "Hi, this is so-and-so from CJ's. Um, turns out that brake kit doesn't come with the hoses, but we do carry it if you would like to order it...."
Only took them 3 weeks to figure it out and get back to me...

Wow, that is some impressive customer service right there!

Always taking a chance when dealing with a 3rd party reseller. Thankfully my deal went smoother.

I have to say Jegs and Summit are top notch for customer service. Summit especially has always done right by me. Good news is it sounds like you'll be able to start putting the shiney new parts on soon!

What can you do? Just bite your lip and deal with it I suppose. I will say, again, that when I did actually talk to someone at CJ's they were very professional. Unfortunately they were just very unorganized. And it showed.

Yes, indeed. Glad it's all been handled and remaining parts should be here today. Looking forward to finally getting the truck back out on the road this summer.

Lines arrived from Jegs.

Of course we were heading out of town to go camping. (I'm sensing a pattern here...)
Won't be long now and the F-100 will be back on the road with shinny new brakes.

I'm so busy right now with work and family stuff that this has literally been at a standstill. Hoping in the next couple of weeks to have it wrapped up and back on the road. I don't want to miss the summer driving season!

Well, I finally got the brakes on, all of the new lines, proportioning valve, etc, etc, etc. and then promptly bolted on the steel wheels.
I am happy to report that they work fantastic.
My buddy just shook his head and said "you're the only guy I know who would buy the fancy disc brakes and then cover them up with steel wheels"
