Intermittant wipers too intermittant.

Postby bendog » Tue Oct 12, 2010 7:11 pm

They still work most (not all) of the time on high, stop wherever they are, on low and just park on intermittant. They still park when the switch is off.

I dont think its the wiring since I was just through the whole harness and had the same basic problem with the wipers since the beginning. They used to work most of the time on low or intermittant, the problem has gotten progressively worse as time has passed.

I'm thinking it's the wiper motor or the wiring inside the motor housing.
Any idears? :?:

Could be a bad switch.

Think so? I dont have any spare intty switches and a new one is almost sixty bucks, but mebbe I'll go order one tomorrow.

On a side note, I've got a buddy trying to get me to buy a runner 78 4x4 reg cab F-250 for a hundred bucks! How can I pass something like that up?

"Honey, the wipers dont work on the crew, this trucks wipers work and its getting ready to start raining." See, I have to buy it. :ugeek:

**edit. Could I test the wiper motor with a spare non-intermittant switch I have? Just thinking outloud.**

You should be able to test the wiper motor with a non-inter switch. Just take the black box out of the wiring also.

I've been hiding out. ;) Actually, I forgot my password, locked my account, and became a lurker without an account. A few weeks ago I contacted Crackpot and he helped me get back in. I haven't done much with the crew except putting it to work so I haven't had much to share.

Here's some pics of it with the wrong color.

Tested it with a non-intermittant switch and the wipers work just fine.

Anyone got an intermittant wiper switch for sale?

Well, I tore the old control box apart today and found a few connections that had vibrated loose and I resoldered them. I also found where the switch was coming apart and I recrimped the electrical part back onto the mechanical part and now my wipers work perfectly. Thanks all for the help, it seems you rarely need to buy new parts for these old workhorses, just fix the old ones!
