1978 "F-150" 4x4 shortbed Ebay $60,000 TX/CO

Aside from the scratched up paint, crooked bumper, worn out/unmatched seats, cheap/crappy wheels, and lame stick-on stainless rocker trim that is hiding rust--- this is a pretty nice truck. I'd like to see how they put on half ton suspension. Seen a few of these where they bolt in the 78-79 style 4x4 front suspension to a 2wd F-250 frame, so I assume thats what this is.

I remember this truck being on Ebay a couple years ago. I can't imagine the current owner paid over $28k for it. But all the stuff he had done to it without even driving it is expensive -- At least $15k worth of mods (for a shop to do)

This truck is not even close to as nice as some of the ones that have sold in the 35-45k range.

Edit: I just noticed the trim is missing between the doors on both sides. Price just dropped another $1000 in my head...

I am getting to the point where I don't even want to look for sale listings of these trucks.
They're beyond ridicules when it comes to the asking prices. I know things change, the economy is good and buying demographics are shifting.
But $60K for this truck? Are you serious? I think 30 is high for the "unrestored one" in Nebraska and it's a nicer truck IMO.
The whole thing just makes me start talking to myself in a disgruntled voice...

The truck is worth what someone is willing to pay. Asking well above desired selling price is nothing new. The guy is probably a real estate investor or something like that.

That said, from looking at the pics and reading the story, i don't think the seller is what we consider a "normal person". Seems a bit out of touch to me.

Who buys a truck sight-unseen, then drives it 1000 miles across the country, immediately drops it off at a restoration shop for $15k worth of work, and then only puts 80 miles on it and wants to sell??? Maybe a person who knows he bought a giant money pit?

I wouldn't doubt for a second that he has over $40k in this truck, and knows that it needs another $15k at least to meet his "standard". No idea what would even give this guy the idea to ask this much. There is nothing comparable to this that has sold for even close to that much money.

I guess that is the point of listing on Ebay -- find that one other person willing to drop double the price on a rig without knowing any better or else not caring.

As for the wheels, obviously anything other than stock or stock looking is going to bring out the "haters". But when switching to Ford half-ton running gear, you are really limited on options. So I kind of understand why these cheap-ass/ugly rims are on there. It would look great with the '94-96 Ford Alcoa 15"ers. I would like to see someone put on 18 or 20" steel wheels-- painted the color of the body -- with the stock hubcaps.

I bet if this was No Reserve, it wouldn't come close to $25k.

Absolutely. And it's the nut jobs who go out there and do unexplainable stunts like this that cause the "value" of these trucks to continuously rocket through the stratosphere. I'm pretty certain that I won't ever be able to own another crew cab of this vintage again. The going prices for rough "some assembly required" projects is already beyond reach in most cases.
Oh well.
